I remember the punch line from his review: "I like this compressor a lot."

One thing I love about the MB is that it has both an input gain AND a threshold (six knobs total). Since I play with a very light touch I usually max the input gain and turn the threshold all the way back. To effectively use other compressors I would need a clean boost in front of the compressor and I like to have the comp first in the chain.

The tube normally has a subtle effect, but if you drive it hard either with a high output bass or by putting some boost in front of it, the tube will deliver an overdrive/distortion effect.

It's a great unit but a little larger than some folks would want on their board and more knobs than some will want to keep track of.

I got the Joyo Compressor and, at least to my ears, heard a roll off of the lows. I didn't like it. That being said I've heard others praise it so go figure.

Just want to throw out there isn't a ton of difference between the Diamond (guitar) Comp and the Diamond Bass Comp. The Bass comp gives you the option to set the tilt EQ center point at a lower frequency but it's not really necessary unless you're playing a lot of low notes on a 5-string. The Bass comp also can be run at 24v. which can help with headroom but honestly I have no issues with the regular comp which I run at 18v.

Basically I'm trying to say is don't feel like you need to get the bass specific model if you can find the regular model cheaper.

  4. Thanks to everyone who participated. There was a lot of great suggestions. In the end I ended up buying a Solidgoldfx Horizon Compression pedal after reading the review on Bongomania's website Ovnilab, also the fact that the pedal is made less than an hour away from home most likely swayed my decision. Don't have it yet but I'll post a review when it arrives in the mail. In the meantime here's a cool review on the pedal I found on youtube.

  5. Awesome, congrats!

I've heard good things about the Horizon.
