Suggestions for a Fender-style builder?

I've done some searching, but I'm trying to make sure I know what options there are (if any). I'm on a budget of about 800 dollars, and I want a P bass that's styled vintage (probably even reliced a little if possible). First priority is that it's a solid player, as I plan to make this my main bass for a long time ideally. Here's basically what I'd like:

    P bass with J neck
Vintage looks & style/relic finish (nitro hopefully)
As high quality components as possible, so no upgrading necessary

I hope Dan Atkinson doesn't mind me mentioning his name here, but he recently sold a relic P in the classifieds that is very much like my desired bass. I've already contacted him, but are there any other builders (or basses) I should look at? Thanks in advance -

(and please save the relic-bashing for your own internal dialogue)

Just wondering if that budget is realistic--it seems very low, IMHO. Are we talking passive?

  6. It gets thrown around a lot around here... but it's SO true... I have never been outwrightly impressed with a new bass than my SX P/J
