Suggestions for a good 4 string under $500

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by bigcardinal, Dec 15, 2005.

  1. Well, the title is pretty self-explanatory. Its upgrading time, unfortunately I am on a budget. I am only looking for a 4 string and it doesn't have to do anything super-dynamic, cause I mostly play pretty standard sounding stuff: rock, hard rock, alt country, bluegrass. Let me know what you think is a good buy and a "keeper" in this price range. Thanks!

Either a new or used Fender Standard (MIM) Precision or a SX P-bass should cover the areas you mentioned in your budget range. I've owned plenty of Fenders, but the SX is a budget favorite here at talkbass. Try a search on SX and see what you come up with.

Hopefully, your playing is super dynamic whatever you are playing. Check out a MIM Jazz or see if you can find an old Fender Jazz Bass Special (MIJ). They can be found a great prices used. I really love those Jazz Specials, especially when they are fretless!
