u5mml6wn8vheeu9lqsfl.jpg Got this cabinet, the old sunn 215B. Now I have EV 'FORCE 15'S' in it . from sunn215Bbasscab.jpg the reviews i have read, the 2032H is good, but doesn't get the lowest' fundamental' whatever that exactly means. How would the tone be with this? If the tone is super good ( using a old Peavey tube pre with a Peavey 120-120 tube amp) then I am golden.Would it be worth changing out the Force 15's for the JBL 2032H's in this cabinet? Thanks!

Whatever that means, well it can't be that important then!

The 2032 driver was used in PA cabinets back in the 1990's, the MR 900 series and maybe even the MR-800 series. It's a decent mid level driver, and with the PROPERLY TUNED cabinet is capable of the high 30's (Hz) range it's as good as anything else... actually it's more capable on the low end than the D/K140 but the high frequency extension is not as good. I don't believe that Sunn cabinet is tuned even remotely close to what the 2032's require. Same comments apply to the Force 15's, except that the low frequency extension is not as good and the high frequency extension is much better (in a properly tuned cabinet).

Thanks! I was really hoping for a reply, you are a lifesaver! Actually a guitar player, bass is so important, ya obviously can't just throw in just any driver like in a guitar cab!
While I got you captive, any suggestions for a decent driver for that Sunn cabinet i have, barring going out and finding the original speakers, or the-too-expensive-for-me D-130's I THINK Sunn loaded them with as an option?

You will have to do the math on the cabinet and that will help you figure out what driver might be a good match.

The original drivers worked, but the performance was not very good because that was before many manufacturers realized that the math mattered. The latest versions of the Sunn cabinets were better suited iirc.

AFAIK, no one on this site has ever published modeling results for this cabinet, perhaps due to the weird design. IIRC, the design was one of several that Conrad Sundholm created by the eyeball method. These cabinets will give you a ballsy 70s rock sound (midrangy) and for that use they sound very good indeed as long as you can tolerate the weight. It's been said they are forgiving cabinets that will acceptably tolerate many different types of speakers, as long as you want that sound. I'd be surprised if you could get this cabinet to perform well at the low end like some of today's cabinets. I have one with the original drivers and for what it is, it's great.

Yes, for what it is, the time it was released and the power levels of amps of the day, they were a good option.
