I know all about the Sire. I will lead off with that, because I am very interested in it. I also am looking around at some Bacchus offerings, but I was curious what other super Jazz basses come with sweepable mids?

Trying to compile a bit of a list. Price is not a huge factor, but lets cap it at $3,500 k.

I'd like a 5 string too. But any super jazz is welcomed.

Does the Fender Jazz Deluxe have sweepable mids? I think so. I don't have any experience with it beside playing it for a few minutes in a store.

For what it's worth it, given my 10 minutes with it, it felt nice and the pre was silent.

John East makes a beast of a preamp with sweepable mids. You could get any high quality J bass, put in the East J Retro, and bob's you're uncle.

I'm jealous of your budget. The sky is the limit for you.

Well $3,500 is pushing it but I'm open minded.

Have we covered them all? Some Bacchus, Sire, Fender Jazz Deluxe...anything else?

Any builder with some "custom" capability can include a sweepable/stacked midrange, as those preamps are available on the open market.

I guess by "Super Jazz" you mean any Jazz style bass with active electronics?

Devon Smullen-- stunning instruments. His jazz basses are insane. And he is such an artist when it comes to building J inspired super(b) basses.

His Facebook is a better source of recent builds. His website is SUPER old.

    Damn those are nice!

  13. Keep in mind that you the bass doesn't need to come with a mid-sweep pre-amp. With your budget, you have a huge range of options for very high quality bass, to which you could add any pre-amp you like.

Well then I vote for the Squier Affinity Jazz with a top-of-the-line pre-amp installed. It will be the best super jazz for metal.

Definitely. I decided to go with a high quality passive 5 string J in the end.

Yeah those are cool as hell, but not the vibe I wanted to go with. Really nice price for those though.

I love my 2001 MIK De Armond pilot pro. Mid control really works nice. These also came in a 5 string with 19mm string spacing, and a neck through model. Shortly after mine was made they shifted production to Indonesia and disappeared from the scene. Sorry no pic's but mine has a very pretty ash body, rosewood board, and DR black beauties.
