After digging around here for a while, I decided to pull the trigger on the Thomastik Superflexible Solo 4/4 43 set of strings and tune them to orchestra pitch.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that recommended and posted about them. I'm surprised that they don't get more love. They seem like a great low tension steel string option.

I'm loving the feel and tone. I've got them on a Eastman VB80 bass with the bridge set up 8mm to 4.5mm-ish E to G and they are perfect for pizz and slap very easily.

I gave my set (I switched to Jargar dolces for a darker sound) to a friend of mine to put on his big hybrid bass -- the thing sounds amazing with them on! They are much under-rated.

  3. Depends on the bass, so, as always, YMMV.
(Not saying they're not good, just wanted to add the usual disclaimer... :)

Fair enough. They were just so-so on my Upton Concord (which prefers Dominant or Sensicore solos tuned down -- I think because off the synthetic core)
