Surely there's someone out there who can help me with this....

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Rockin John, May 15, 2001.

  1. I posted a thread in Miscellaneous about how to identify whether or not a bass marked as Fender, Made in USA, is actually just that.

There are plenty of rogue basses out there that claim to be MIA Fenders but are really clones that have been built from all sorts of different parts.

Before I part with my hard earned I need some guidance: how do I tell the good from that bad? Are there any subtle or striking features about a bass that will help me?

run the serial number on it before you buy it. thats a sure fire way. also the headstocks on my mia jazz bass deluxe says made in usa right on it. im not sure if the american series says that on there too but i think it does...and another way to tell is to look on the back of the guitar. the mia fenders have the F logo on the chrome neck heal. but the serial number is the most reliable way to find out. id also like to think that your ears should be able to tell the difference.
