I purchased a Squier Vintage Modified 70's Style Jazz 5 in December of 2012. Nice bass, especially for the price, right out of the box. However, I did replace all the electronics shortly after I bought it and this year I finally had it refinished including the headstock. I had a Squier decal made up as close to the original as possible.
I went with Surf Green. One of my all time favorite colors. Here's the before and after pics.

Nice. Surf Green was my first refinish project - one of my favorite colors. Did you do it yourself?

Thanks, but no I didn't do the job myself.
Bad picture taken with my phone, but they did a fantastic job.
I've used it at a few gigs and have received several compliments on it.

  5. I've thought about doing that with my VM Jaguar, but it looks great in black with matching headstock already, so it's be a tough call. I love surf green!

Surf green cries out for a clown barf pick guard. The stuff is as rare as dinosaur poop.

A bit too much for me though. I'll have to pass.

I've thought of doing that with my VM 4. Now that I see what it looks like, I'm even more tempted...absolutely beautiful sir!

Funny i was just contemplating a surf green refin on my vm p5. Got a quote for $300....thats a little too much for my 200$ squier. Especially when i could buy a warmouth alder surf green body for about $400. That seems like a better deal....out of curiosity, what did yhat refin cost you

Dude!!! My thoughts exactly. Seafoam for me though. My biggest disappointment with Fender is lack of finish choices.
Have you seen the newAntigua green? Guitar Center has them on their sight. Their MIM's so their reasonable.

Great looking bass! Just to clarify, is that Surf Green or Seafoam Green?

    Thanks for all the compliments.

I paid $425 which included refinishing the body, headstock and shipping both ways. I stripped all electronics and hardware off the bass and re-installed it all myself except for the neck plate. That was left intact for shipping purposes.
Money wise it doesn't make sense, but this bass was purchased to use as a backup and I also wanted to be able to mod it anyway I wanted without worrying about hurting the resale value.
Adding the original price ($305) with the electronics being upgraded ($150) and the refinish, I have about $880 in the bass. See.......I told you it doesn't make any sense.......:woot:
The upside.........I have a bass customized the way I want in one of my favorite colors that plays and sounds great.

Seafoam Green is a great color, but it's Surf Green. My phone doesn't take the greatest pictures and I have a hard time taking one that shows the color accurately........and I'm not the greatest photographer either.

I'm not sure how standardized 5 string neck pockets are though. The fender 4s are MOSTLY consistent, but I'm less
    Clear on the 5s.
