I was thinking of getting flats on my basses so as to give them a more fretless tone or just a general smoother sound but I don't want it to affect the sustain of false harmonics and other such notes.

How different are flats in this respect?

Do I need to make any adjustments to my basses to take flats?

    Thanks in advance.
  2. I use TI Jazz Flats, and they have the most sustain and harmonics of any flats, plus I can slap on them. However, this is not what flats are about. Flats are a "vintage" sound, where sustain is not required, you're not going to play "Aeroplane", and definitely not going to play "Portrait of Tracy". LOL!
