SVP Pro - Black Face vs new style?

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by robd, Jun 28, 2004.

  1. I just got an email from someone selling a used SVP Pro. He says his is the old "black face" style.

What is the difference between the old black face and the current model except the color, anyone know?

Thanks if advance for any info you can provide.

Other than the knobs and color scheme, the only difference that I know of is that the newer (grey) model has a transformer balanced D.I. output, rather than a solid-state circuit (black). I have an older black SVP-PRO and the D.I. sounds just fine, so I don't know how much difference the transformer makes. AFAIK, the rest of the unit is exactly the same.
  3. Thanks

The "black face" can be noisier than the newer ones.

The board was changed after those to rout the wires from the EQ farther from power supply components. If not routed carefully, the older ones can have a buzz if the EQ is on.

Aside from that there is really just the line out, as far as I remember.
