I dont know which to get. The ampeg svt 350 or the svt 450. Both are solid state. My hartke 3500 rack head crapped out, and I sold my rack setup. What are your opinions on both heads.
    Thanks,

    Joe

same heads. 350 is 350 watts at 4 ohms and the 450 is 450 watts at 4 ohms. Get the 450. more headroom is better. and the 350 is pretty underpowered

The 450 is only about $100 more which isnt a big deal.
Im assuming it will be fine with my 400 watt GK 4X10?

+1. I have one and that's my only complaint.
Not sure what 450 sounds like, can't be that much of a difference.

Depends on where and what you play.I have a 350 with a 15 and 2-10's and I've never had it past 5 on the master and gain.I play classic rock.If you play death metal it prolly ain't enough.

I play mostly alternative rock. But my only worry is if i get the 450, will it be ok with my 400 watt GK 4x10.

I have the backline, which worked pretty good with my hartke. I just dont know if i should upgrade to a better cab or not.

i once played through a 350. i didn't like it at all. way underpowered, mushy sound...

    and bulky.

    outdated, i'd say...

  12. 100 watts isnt going to make much of a difference really

I can pretty much guarantee that you won't be able to tell a difference between the two.
The extra 100 watts will give you that little bit of extra headroom, but it's not much to begin with.

Personally I would look at a GK 1001 RBII, it will cost you only a little bit more money but its gonna be worth it.

On Musician's Friend there are other heads that put out more power and have more features than the SVT 350/450H and are in the same price range.

PS - is your 4x10 cab 4 or 8 ohms?? Remember if its 8 ohms you will be getting roughly 1/2 the power out of the SVT 350/450.

save your money for something else....like a GK, MarkBass, Trace, or one of the big Ampegs like the SVT-Pro2/4/6/or 8...The 350 that I used to own was mushy and I never could get a real punchy tone out of it... and it definitely didn't cut it against 2 guitarists....

Are there any music stores near you that carry GK products? If so then give the GK 1001RBII a try. It has a lot more headroom than the SVT 350/450, it has more features, it's lighter, has a smaller footprint and fantastic tone. It will also put out a lot more power at 8ohms than the Ampegs making it more suitable for your 8ohm 4x10 cab.

Both guitar centers near me carry gk products. I should go give it a try this weekend. I was maybe considering a new cab to. Im just not to impressed with the gk tone.
