I've been on a wheel and deal megathon lately, latest deal, swapped my Moog Little Phatty for a 6 Pro, USA made. I'll get pics up tommorro, but just needed to shout it out. My first bassamp over the 500 watt mark, I won't have to push my little Walkabout so hard next time I hook up with my party band, (Sept). Of all the Ampeg Pro series, I've always favored the 6 because of the parametric mid band, hate those sliders most of the others have. I've only just checked it out, and it has a very warm tubey tone to it, I'm quite pleased. Thanks for listening.
musicians friend still has them so i don't think they're discontinued. either way, sweet bit of kit bro. what cabs you running?
have you given her a spin yet to give us some scoop on it? Is the Pro-5 just a smaller version of the 6? Like same features just more juice? Now did the Pro-8 replace the 6?
Sweet deal and amp. I just upgraded from a 3 pro to a 4 pro. I wanted to go with the 6 but couldn't find a store around here that had one in stock. I then called ampeg and talked to a product specialist and asked if they were going to stop selling the 6 Pros and the answer I got was, "The problem with the 6 pro is that a lot of people are returning the amps because they are confused by the fully parametric EQ and can't dial in a sound that they like so they return them for something else, otherwise, if your an audiophile and understand the EQ section, you will be able to dial in just about any sound you could imagine". The rep then went on to tell me how he has both a 4 Pro and a 6 Pro. Maybe they get really awesome discounts!!!!
No full on review at this point. Currently I'm using a UL 2x12 as my only cab, (too bad, a previous wheel and deal cost me a pair of Mesa Powerhouse cabs, they would've been perfect for this head). Anyway, it's the whole semi-para mid band that got me wanting this one, very similar to the Mesa MPulse amps, (Walkabout, M-600). You can dial it in any way you want, and it kicks pretty hard. The 4 Pro has more power, and is bi-ampable, where this one isn't, but that's a plus for me anyway. And thanks for playing along.
