Hey Folks, Just looking for any hands on experience comparing an SVT-7PRO and SVT-3PRO. I can see the differences in wattage and features, but I'm curious about the overall sound and reliability of the two models. It's surprising that new pricing puts the 7PRO at about a third less than the 3PRO even though it has more than twice the wattage? I have a chance to get a great condition 810E and an SVT-3PRO for $1100. The head looks to be an older model with two 1/4" speaker jacks and a pair of banana jacks? Is that 450 watts enough to have fun with? And which of the two amps is easier to get that classic Ampeg tone from? Thanks Folks, Gene
It's gonna be mighty loud thru a decent 810E... 450w. Don't be afraid to UP the LEVEL slider on the Graphic eq if you get the 3 Pro. Similar sounding, but I liked the 7 better, perhaps it's the extra wattage, but I found it punched good n hard. If getting a 7pro, I would buy new with warranty and piece of mind of getting a later model, as there were problems with early ones.
The 3 pro is a proven amp and is somewhat known in the industry. The milage of reliability varies on both amps depending on who you talk to. I prefer the 3pro because it has snark and grind in its tone. To my ears, the 7pro takes some of the clean voicing of the 4pro and puts it in a lighter package. I own one of the blue script models with the banana jacks and I love it. I opted to go for the 8pro and was fortunate enough to find one. That amp is kind of a mesh of both amps in that it's high powered and can growl.
