SVT 8-10 Cab

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Tom Neves, Aug 23, 2000.

  1. Hey guys,
I know a few of you out there have the SVT 8-10 Cab. (Vintage Style)
    The question I have is,
What is the difference between the towel bar vs. the non towel bar model?
    Is there a tonal difference?
Or is it from a quality standpoint.
Is there a prefered year for the cab that you may know of?
I'm looking for one, and as always I trust in you guys and value your opinions.

    Hey Tom, how's it going.
I have the newer 8-10" and I love it. I also push it with an SVT "69". The older models were made with plywood and I think the newer ones are OSB. I also know in the older ones, every speaker had its own chamber and the newer ones every pair of speaker are in their own chamber. The older models used Eminence speakers. I don't know what the newer ones use. Sound wise, I think the older ones were a little louder, but I still love the newer ones with the SVT driving it. Try picking up one used. I've seen these go for $500 in great shape.

The older ones also had a chamber for pairs of speakers, not each speaker.
  4. Cool!
Iv'e read about the speaker thing housed together or in seperate chambers. I was wondering if that would make any sonic differences?
One thing for sure.....I guess either one would make the amp come alive.
I gigged with mine last week through a Ampeg 4-10. It was glorious!
Our guitar player had a hard time keeping up.......

Tom, if you have one 4-10", why not just get another 4-10"? It will save you some bucks and ease of portability. Not that I mind carting my 8-10" around. But since you already have one 4-10", I figured why not?
  6. Hi Doug,
Nice to talk with you again.
I have thought of that option.
I will most likely use the 4-10 for small gigs.I also have a 2-12 Ampeg cab.
The thing is......I just want the classic set-up.
I most likely won't gig with it often, being it would be overkill.
I may wind up selling the 2-12. We'll see!
I prefer the tight sound of the tens over the twelves.
    What about you?
I was also looking into using the V4 guitar cab for bass
    (smaller 4-12).
According to Psycho, It would not do the lower frequencies well.
DARN!!! It would have looked cool with the V4b head.

You would still get a good classic SVT sound with another Ampeg 4-10". Especially if you're not going to use it that much. Go with the 4-10". I would.
