I am looking at a schematic for the preamp section of the 1972 SVT, and the two channels are very different! Channel one has 3 12DW7s versus a 12AX7 in channel two. It also looks like only channel one gets a mid control.

I understand the bright versus normal inputs, but could anybody describe the difference in sound between channel one and channel two?

Also, does the mid range control affect channel two?

I own a 1974 svt andthe controls are set up like this

    4 inputs

    1 Bright, channel 1
    1 Bright, channel 2
    1 Normal, channel 1
    1 Normal, channel 2

The channel one has Volume treble middle and Bass controls
the channel two has volume treble and Bass control.

Yes, it has two independant tube preamp on this amp.

Here you can find the schematics for a 1972 ampeg svt.

The mid control of chan 1 doesn't affect the channel two.
The two preamps has some differents, chan2 is good for slappin' and for rockabily style. Easier to overdrive.
