Hey Y'all, Quick question from a new owner of an SVT Classic (made in Vietnam) I was lurking around the older posts concerning ohm loads and outputs of the older SVT classics, but some of the posts concerning the new SVTs were a little murky. The older SVTs, if you were running two 8 ohm cabinets you had to daisy chain each cabinet together and run out a single output from the amp. However, the newer SVT outs are run in parallel. So in the same situation I could run both my 8 ohm cabs out of each of the amp's outputs without daisy chaining the cabinets to reach the 4ohm rating, right? However, if that's true, what sounds better? Daisy chaining the cabinets? or running each cab out of a single 1/4" out? p.s. when i purchased the head it had two blown 6550s. I'm out $150 for three power tubes
Ya, newer ones have a switch to switch impedance so no hoop jumping necessary. And don't :/ the Vietnamese SVT's. Yes, they had some problematic SVT's come out of Vietnam, but the ones that worked are just as good as any of them, and the problematic ones have mostly been fixed or taken out of the population by now.
Oh, I love the way the SVT sounds, looks, and my young, able body can take the weight! I've never had an amp this incredible (including the expense). I'm just being a brat.
LOL! It's casual...just there is sort of a stigma about the Vietnamese heads, so I didn't want you to bum out over it. It's not underserved as far as QC goes, but it's been 5 years since Ampeg made anything in Vietnam, and they all sound like SVT's to me so it's all good.
