I’m bored on my lunch break in case none of you can tell...ha
Al McKay on guitar with James Brown.
Harley Flanagan in the Weather Report.
Id really love to have seen what the Red Hot Chili Peppers could have done with anybody that can actually sing. So just make it a trio and have John sing.
3-team sports trade:
John Bonham in The Who
Keith Moon in The Police
Stuart Copeland in Led Zepellin
Anne Wilson for Layne Staley in AIC - they did a couple of songs for the Tsunami Relief concert in 2005 and I thought that was the direction AIC would go:
Even once William DuVall was on board, she should have joined the band:
Mine is one that actually allegedly almost came to pass, but sadly, didn't: Joey Spampinato in The Stones, post-Bill.
I’ve always wanted Jimi to replace Clapton in Cream.
I've always wondered what it would've been like if Phil Lesh had done more outside the Grateful Dead back when the Dead were still a band. The first thing that comes to mind (because it would be interesting, not necessarily because it might actually work) is Phil in one of Zappa's bands. I'm not saying Phil would've worked out in the role if it actually happened, but it's interesting to think about. Given the fluidity of Zappa's lineup, though, this doesn't seem to be exactly in the spirit of this thread.
More to the point of the thread: Igor Cavalera for Lars Ulrich in Metallica.
Jaco in Return to Forever
Stanley in Weather Report
When David Byron was sacked from Uriah Heep, they had David Coverdale try out. Always wondered what that would have sounded like, and what direction Heep would have taken.
Recently a fellow Heepster wondered how they would have sounded if Ian Gillan joined. Again something to ponder :-D
The Partridge Family featuring Lemmy on bass and vocals.
the supremes: wilson pickett in place of diana ross.
Exactly my view. Keidis is one of the most fortunate musicians around, imo.
Would you recommend that bio? I'm looking for something new to start...Monk's was pretty great.
This is less a recommendation than a warning: Myself When I Am Real by Gene Santoro. It's not "pretty great." While I learned a lot about Mingus, the book is a hard slog. Deeply researched but poorly edited.
Donald "Duck" Dunn in Motörhead.
Gene Simmons (full make-up) in Queen / ABBA / Lynyrd Skynyrd / Grateful Dead / Joni Mitchell.
Keith Moon with Sade.
Albert Ayler with Wham! ("Careless Whispers" would be excellent!)
Fieldy with Joan Baez.
John Taylor and Les Claypool.
