Swapping out necks L2500 Tributes

  1. Just got a maple necked L2500 Tribute coming in Sunburst but want to swap necks with my rosewood necked Natural bodied L2500 one. Both are Korean

I assume a straight replacement, is there anything I should be wary of or need to know?

I guess the serial numbers will transpose but they're both over a year old and not exactly vintage!

  2. Well the other Bass arrived today, so loosened off and removed the strings, unscrewed 6 screws and off came the neck. There are traces of woodglue in the pocket and a little strip of abrasive paper, presumably to help seat the neck in the pocket.
Did the same on the other bass, swapped necks and 12 screws later and after re-attaching the strings , everything was back together.
I'll post some pictures later this week of the two basses, side by side. One natural body with maple neck, the other sunburst body and rosewood neck.

  3. Swapped over the necks and this is how they now look!

I like them that way, too. Nice basses, have fun.

Great. Can you tell any difference in the sound?

  6. I think the maple neck sounds a little cleaner and rings more but it could just be placebo effect/wishful thinking!
