I'm looking for a wide, rangy, sweepy, slow phaser (for brightening up those long boring droney basstones) that won't suck out my lows. Looking for that takeoff sound, just ascending and descending in a very slow pace, but without destroying my lows while it's taking off I've been looking at the Xvive V6 Phaser King, it's got all the takeoff sound I need, but in every demo it seems to really thin out the tone. Same goes for the Mooer Ninety Orange and the Tone City Summer Orange. The Henretta Golden Years also caught my eye, it sounds REALLY great, but I don't know if it can go slow enough...? Also, limited pedalboard space, so yeah that's an issue... Any suggestions? Appreciate it!
Tried the classics before looking at boutique options? i.e. the EHX Nano Small Stone and MXR Phase 90 (I prefer the standard block version). The EHX is darker/chewier, the MXR brighter/snappier, but neither lose low end to my ears. Both have the advantage of being able to find and sell easily on the used market too.
Yeah but both lack power imo... They're great for playing warm and cosy riffs or classic rock, but their sound is too subtle for what I'm looking for
Agreed, tried both and they didn't really make much difference when they were on. They just got lost in the mix. Ended up getting a TC Vortex Flanger which does more of that jet sweep sound which is what I wanted. If you want more of a phaser, get the TC Helix. With the Toneprints, you can dial in anything you can imagine.
Maybe somebody has a clone in a smaller package? Looks like John Kallas has one a little smaller than the OG
Oh right yeah it's called the Nu-Tron II But, there's nowhere I can get it here or play it and see how it sounds here in the Netherlands T _ T
It is super programmable, and can do all sorts of sounds. Link a video that featured a takeoff sound, as I'm not 100% sure what you mean by that.
I have a byoc phase 100 clone that if set to be is anything but subtle. I'd maybe look for a phase 100 or 99. Less common than a phase 90 but still gotta be easier to find than boutique. I think the key is independent depth and rate controls.
The TC Helix should be super tweakable with the Toneprints too, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a majorly extreme preset for it: Helix Phaser | TC Electronic
