That was an excellent effort. I'm not sure, but that might have been the first thing I ever learned on bass...at least the first thing worth hearing me play.

 

I don't know how many kids I taught this to back when it came out (I was teaching back then...) so on this song, I have some history.

Let me suggest - lay back on the notes a bit - you're pushing the beat. I'd also suggest you think about the quality of the notes your playing one at a time, not if you manage to jam all the notes that Duff or Slash actually played into the tune. Not that this song really demands big attention to detail, but if you're a new player and still should really each new song as a learning exercise - so I saw fewer, better notes... once you get those notes DOWN, then get them fills all sorted out.

Great start. I'm not sure what's up with your right hand technique, except that it looks like maybe a different position would be conducive to better control of your attack... could require a rework of your strap length as well.

it's been said before... work on the fundamentals of the song, then work on the fills and flashy stuff. not bad at all other than that little bit... how old are you anyway?

 

Agreed. Get a fundamental basic line down then work on phrasing the fills and notes in between. It seems the more technical stuff is rather random in quality. I noticed you played a lot of staccato notes that seemed out of place. This GNR piece is pretty laid back and just make sure to make every note flow smoothly.

The key is, if you're not looking to get it perfect to the recording, a good idea is to get what sounds good if there was no original bass track to begin with.

Great effort for ear. I also felt though that there were some root notes that sounded off. I may be wrong too, I'm not master of the ear myself. Keep jamming.

 

just a quick tip: all GNR stuff is tuned a half step down.

 

Ahhh... SCoM, one of the first songs I ever covered. Good work, I say. It's not pixel-perfect, but then again, only Duff can perform it the original way.

 

It sounds like you nail some of the trickier parts but struggle a bit laying down the more simple parts that drive the song. I would work on locking in with the kick drum and holding down the groove. Nice work on the fills!

 

i think it's good, you might have been bit nervous because of the camera and recorder. just try to relax and get into the groove of the song a bit more. you're on the right track.
