www.sweetwater.com/used/categories/bass?query=&page=1&sort=published_desc Who knew Sweetwater had a used marketplace people can post to? I just discovered this recently. With Reverb fees rising, maybe it's worth a shot for sellers. This thread is for Hot Deals, with discussion.
Reading more on it, it operates just like a forum classified posting area. Sweetwater doesn't facilitate or offer discounts on shipping, payments, etc. Reverb does help with all that stuff, including dispute resolution, etc. Still, this is a good site to know about, and next time I have something to sell may give it a shot.
No, but you have to call the buyer every other week to see if they’ll purchase the rest of your crap.
Is it me or does the overall pricing seem higher than Reverb? The Ampeg gear is a better deal on Reverb.
That’s pretty much the conclusion I came to... It’s basically Craigslist. They don’t seem to have controls or help if a sale or purchase goes sour. Most often the best used deals are on TalkBass anyway.
I got excited to 60 used basses until I realized that basically anything listed over a few months ago is no longer there. So really more like 10-15 useds basses.
A vintage Fender bought from an individual site unseen? Not a good idea. There are a few vintage dealers / stores I don't trust based on disassembly of what was supposed to be "original".
The suggest shipping items COD for the ease of transaction. Uh, no. COD is how we sold stuff online in the mid 90’s. LOTS of risk, and a huge delay between when you ship the item and when you receive payment. Also you have to ship the item, and pay for shipping, first - then hope the address is right, or hope the buyer doesn’t change their mind. If they do, they just don’t accept the pkg, and you’re out the shipping cost - and a couple weeks of your bass taking a road trip in various trucks. As a buyer, you have to pay the UPS driver upon delivery - which means you need to be home. It also means once the driver gets the check, they’re on to the next stop. They’re not going to stay and watch you open it to make sure you got what you ordered and as described. You pay, and you have zero recourse. So any company in 2021 setting up an online marketplace and suggesting you use COD is just disaster waiting to happen. They do later mention Paypal. Services like Paypal should be the default method. COD should go the way of the dodo.
It's been there for a long time. I looked there for a while, but I never saw anything I wanted, and lost interest with it. edit: There's a lot more stuff than there used to be. Maybe worth checking out occasionally. Glad you mentioned it.
