Tomorrow, I get to cross another thing off my 'life list'! I'm going to swim with Baluga Whales at Sea World! It's one of thier interaction programs (and much more fun, I'd guess, than their shark interaction program) where you get to don a wetsuit and swim with these amazing animals. My wife wanted me to have something to remember from my summer vacation - isn't she cool? I'll post a follow up when I get back. And for those of you who don't know, this is a baluga whale:
SWEET!!! That sounds awesome! One of the things on my list is swimming with river otters, they look so playful and happy all the time. Of course, I'd take whales too Have fun! [EDIT] along with taking a whole winter long vacation to alaska to see the northern lights, bungee jumping, learning to fly a plane, sky diving from said plane (), and owning a $15,000 Hirsbrunner tuba.
Wow! Congratulations! Those are amazing animals. I saw a tv show about them a couple of weeks ago, and those animals are simply amazing! Have fun!
sweet, that looks like great fun man! i too think they look like an oversized dolphin with a big head
Actually, they still do it! Really. It was amazing, amazing amazing!!! I spent about 20-25 minutes in the water with 4 whales (that's the extent of thier attention span, according to the trainer). Worked a couple behaviors, fed them fish, and got a 'pectoral fin ride' (spinning around in circles while holding her pectoral fins), got a kiss from a 2,500 pound white whale - and had a generally great time with an obviously intelligent, gentle and friendly group of animals. An experience that I'll never forget.
You can swim safely with whale sharks. I've always wanted to do exaclty that.... Unfortunately with a history of lung trouble, that's impossible. Sounds pretty damn good, Pacman. Don't fall in the Portuguese Man-O-War tub, okay?
i almost got to swim with dolphins when i was in the keys last week - until we found out how much it cost!
Yeah, it ain't cheap! But, I think that's partly to keep the riff-raff out. I just got my picture of my morning (I live down the block from Sea World), and when I get it scanned, I'll post a pic here.
Please post that pic. I'm busting to see it. The swim with sharks program is "apparently" not as dangerous as it sounds. They use sharks that are too young to be territorial, and they feed them very well before hand. I still wouldn't do it.......
