switching from 4 string to 5

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by BlackburstJBP, Oct 7, 2005.

  1. Hello out there.I have played a fender 4 string Jazz bass w/active pick ups for years now.I am used to the distance beween the strings.I,m not big on change, but I want to move over to a 5 string with a low B.What would be an easy bass to play IOW Close to having same distance between the strings? I,ve tried a couple, but they are just way to close for my taste.

Which basses have you tried with spacing that you consider too close?

I just switched from 4 to 5, and bought an Ibanez BTB 405QM. The string spacing feels wide, but I'm getting used to it. It's the 35" scale that's hardest to get used to. But I'm getting used to that pretty fast too.

So maybe you're looking for basses with a wide string spacing? Look at the BTB. I'm sure others will know more basses with relatively wide spacing.
