So after a couple months of debating I've decided that I would rather play bass than guitar. I already have a fender jazz bass. But I am wondering what kind of amps would be good for me to take a look at. I would be playing Hard-Rock/Metal with two guitarists. Whats a good amp that will help me cut through the mix and sound good? This amp would have to be loud enough to gig and play small/medium sized gigs. I am looking to spend under $450. Thank you!

Not with a PA right now. We are constantly borrowing one.. But do not have our own. Its just to play local shows with some bands around and to practice with. I mostly would like it for practice. But there will be some gigs played too.
  4. Low cost amp MAG300 by Ashdown or if you can afford one ABM300 EVO head.

If you cant get these for the money get an old Trace Elliot amp at least 250w, or an old Peavey amp.

As a good starter amp you could use the Behringer BX3000 head.

Everybody slates them on here but for power a secondhand Hartke HA3500 head is very loud , get the odd overdrive pedal and you have a good start with your first rig.

Get at least a 1 x 15 cab to start with.
