    Hi,
I am currently using a GK backline 600 head and an acme b1 1x10 cab and I noticed that when I play with friends at a decent volume to be heard over a drummer my cab starts to distort pretty heavily on the low end. I was wondering switching to the MBX112 would change this considering it is a 12 inch speaker and I use a 6 string bass. Does anyone have any advice on this cab? I'm not playing any gigs at the moment just jamming with friends.

Nice sound but not alot of volume out of an 112MBX cab due to the size of the cab, however if you use the 110 and the 112 together, you'd likely have enough volume for jam sessions.

  3. You'll need less power to drive the MBX112, Acme's sound nice but are not efficient. You should look into a NEO 112 from G-K or 112 from Avatar, Epifini, many other efficient 112 cabs.

I own the GK MB150S combo which is the same cabinet with a head. The speaker sounds good but I wouldn't want to drive it with a lot of power and a 6 string bass and expect much from it. It's a sealed cabinet with a fairly inefficient 12" speaker. Great and lightweight and works well at low volume with the 150 watt GK micro head. Someone else on the forum reports using the 1x12 MB extension cab in an emergency with a high powered amp on a gig and driving it really loud. He says it stood up and didn't sound bad. I have reservations myself about how long you could keep this up.

Take a look at the new Traynor lightweight 1x12 extension cabinet. It has a much more efficient 12" Neo speaker and may work much better for you and keep cost down.

So basically yall are saying that the 112mbx will not be as loud as my 1x10 acme?

It'll probably be a little louder but it won't pump out nearly as much bottom end or be able to handle the low B of a 5 string as well. It's a nice sounding cabinet though and at 16 lbs really easy to cart around..
