Not that I'm unhappy with the SWR, but have considered the idea of adding a 'PA Amp' head and using the SWR as the PreAmp. I realize, an "actual" preamp, typically puts out a lower amount of power, and the SWR - depending on how its run - sends out some 275 to 500 watts. Anybody with some words of wisdom, comments or suggestions on whether or not this is a poor choice and / or should just be left behind and forgotten??? Thanks in advance ladies and gents... michael s.
You can use the effects "send" to a power amp. This works fine for the SWR SM amps if you are looking for more power/headroom.
It will work fine. SWR used to make a preamp only version that was sold by Groove Tubes: http://swrsound.com/products/vintage.html#propreamps
I do that I use the XLR out from the SM-400 to the balanced in (I think) on the QSC. I set the XLR out to line so I still have use of the EQ.
