Hey...My current rig incorporates a pair of 1x12's that get all the way down to 29hz @ -3dB, so I;m set for low end...in fact, i have almost too much...I tend to cut my bass back a lot, and keep treble and mid alll the way up (Yamaha pb-1) I am in the process of obtaining a new power amp (crest 4801 or EW PL-1000) and was thinking...I'd like more high end. my last amp had a tweeter, and I think I got used to being able to get the highs to draw blood... and now I'm kinda lacking them. I like the sound of the 8x8 a lot, and was thinking that I may be able to add a 4x8 (a full 8x8 is too big, methinks) but - and afew BUT's - It only handles 250 watts. My 1x12's are 600 w a peice. And I'll have a big poweramp running it all...and the 4x8 is 8 ohm (both 1x12's are 8 ohm) - so I could run one side of the amp @ 4 ohm and one at 8 - but do you think the 4x8 can keep up without blowing up? the 1x12's are medium/low efficient...I just want to know what you think...and if you have any other suggestions for getting more high end. A 2x8? 2x10? suggestions? oh - what if I biamped, and ran the henry crossed over with, say everything below 100-120 rolled off? Would that let me push it louder? Or sound louder?, with less actual power running to it? Help!
i have a henry 8x8. it's rated at 480w but i run 750w to it, no problem. it's totally a full range cab - low B sounds punchy and clear, and the upper registers just sing. the 4x8 has been discontinued, but you could probably find one used in good condition. i imagine using it with the 12's you have would work well. i wouldn't worry about running it full range...it shouldn't be a problem. also, if you bi-amp you'll end up with less overall volume than if you run full range. maybe gain a little clarity, but imo, it's not really worth it.
There is a decent Henry Jr on e-bay. it ends Nov 2 but the price is under $200! (I'm not sure exactly where it is I just did a "SWR" search) BRGDS
man, what a *%$# drag. i payed for a used henry jr. 4x8 cabinet, and after anxiously waiting and watiing, it arrived today. i open up the box, and what do we have? a swr cabinet with generic 10" speakers in them, and the grill isn't even screwed down. (doesn't really fit, but is somehow just stuck on the front). fortunately, the salesman apologized, and i'm sending it back tomorrow. deman669, sorry i couldn't review it for you~ good luck.
