SWR Goliath 3: Buzzing Sound From Horn

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by flea2010, Jan 13, 2004.

  1. Hi there,

A few days ago I bought an used SWR Goliath 3 (4x10).
I have a SWR 350x Amp and there is a buzzing sound coming out of the horn. When I turn down the treble completely it disappears.
It also is louder when I leave the strings of the bass open, when I damp them with my flat hands, it not hearable anymore.

I only tried the box in my living room, I don't know how disturbing this sound is, when played with the band.

Is this normal, or may there be a problem with the horn?

I'd be thankfull for any comments.

Sounds like your amp is picking up or producing some good old 60 Hz hum, and there are upper harmonics of this being reproduced by the tweeter. If you did not previously have a cabinet with a tweeter/horn, it may have always been present but not audible.

Maybe coming from fluorescent lights, triac dimmers, noisy refrigerator . . . .many possible causes, assuming it is not the amp itself. Hard to say more without hearing it.

Don't play with your bass facing the computer monitor.
