I'm looking for a warm sounding amp with ample power. I'm currently using the amp out of a Peavey Databass and have a 5er Maple Cirrus and recently acquired a Peavey Patriot that I have added an active preamp. The Databass power I'm using sounds horrible through the cab I'm using. I have a 4-10 cab I built with Mesa speakers and horn. I know I can get a better sound through this cab and need some suggestions how to get a better sound. I am also considering a Peavey Alphabass head that I found for a good price.

    Thanks for the input.

Why limit to only those two? For the sound you describe, the Eden by far. There are many other choices though.

I'm open to suggestions to anything. I have just found a couple of deals on the ones listed.

Do you have a price in mind?

The amps I've mentioned are from $300-$500 used. $500 is
about the most I can spend.

Eden & SWR are very different-sounding. Decide which sound you like better. Personally I find Eden by far the "warmer" of the two.

I would not use "warm" to describe the SWR sound at all. Out of those two I say try the Eden.

Have you considered the Ampeg PF series? Both the PF350 and PF500 are within your price range.

Is there a local guitar shop that has these amps. If so it might be a good idea to take your cab down to compare heads.

Eden all the way. Almost impossible to get a good sound out of the SM-900.

I would hardly call an SM900 "warm sounding". The one I had was in and out of the repair shop and I was very thankfull to be rid of it.

Ten years ago I would have recommended the Eden... Now, I'd suggest looking into one of the newer Class D amps like the TH500, Shuttle 9.2, Streamliner 900, MB Fusion, MB800, etc.... (just a quick sampling, in no particular order)

  13. The eden is considered the "warmer" of the two here on TB and IME as well, although a Tech 21 VT bass pedal can warm up pretty much any amp if that is all you are looking for...
