Hey everyone. I'm Sam, a little new here (1st post, long time lurker) and just looking for some information that might be somewhere around, but I'm having trouble finding.

I just acquired a old gray grill SWR son of bertha for free this weekend with a shorting out Peavey black widow that I'm fixing and a tweeter/horn that isn't working at all. I believe the crossover is fine, fuse is good at least, but the tweeter won't make a noise.

So, I'm looking for a replacement that will work and bolt up to the horn assembly. I know very little about bass tweeters so bear with me. The Peavey 15 is an 8ohm will a 8ohm tweeter keep the cab running around 8 ohms as a whole? How many watts should the tweeter be rated at to not be blown instantly by my GK 800rb?

I just wanna get this thing fixed up so IF I like it a lot I can keep it, or if not, sell it. Any help, or suggestions, or links would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!

Oops, I posted this in the wrong thread. Thank you to the moderator for moving it. I've emailed SWR trying to get information about the tweeter, but haven't gotten a response. Anybody?

You might need to replace just the diaphragm in the horn; not the whole horn.

Here's how to check it: unbolt the horn from the cabinet, lift it out and disconnect the wires. Take the back cover off the horn assembly (held on with 3 or 4 small screws). Remove the small screw holding the diaphragm and gently take the diaphragm out (lift straight up). Look at the wires circling around the center of the diaphragm. Notice any dark spots where it's burned or broken? If so, it needs to be replaced. This is quite common on SWR, Eden, Carvin and other bass cabinets using this style of horn.

New/replacement diaphragms are relatively inexpensive. If you can't purchase one locally, order one online. Try here: Foster Factory Style Replacement Speaker Diaphragm N30, 025, H025, N27, N28

    Good luck. Hope this helps.

Oh great! I had pulled the assembly out already and unbolted it from the horn part, but had no idea about the dome coming off like that. Or that it was replaceable. There are no markings/numbers on it, I had no clue where to look for parts or any info at all. So thank you very much for taking the time to help, and for the link. I will take it apart the rest of the way when I get home and see how it looks.
    Thanks again!
