So I've been GASing recently for the Zebrawood Gibson Thunderbirds, but I'm not sure if they're worth the $2,050. In fact, I'm not sure if the standard is worth $1,700+, when a Studio is almost $700 less... Has anybody played any combo of these instruments? I know it's always best to go play it yourself, but all the music stores in my area only carry Epiphone Goth Thunderbirds... and from what I've experienced with them, I like the tone and feel...
Have only played the Epi's, stock Gibsons(2006, 1976, ans 1964's), and Brice's. Go here: http://www.vintagebass.com/thedudepit/forumdisplay.php?f=49 and ask. I can think of one or two forum folks who try to have one of each... Owner's of 'em: http://www.vintagebass.com/thedudepit/showthread.php?t=29419&highlight=zebrawood http://www.vintagebass.com/thedudepit/showthread.php?t=26349&page=1&pp=10&highlight=zebrawood although "Ze In-Kraut" has not checked in with a report yet....
Ze Collectktor owns one and said the the Zebra wood bird sounded Warwick like in it's tone. He really liked his. Read his review here- http://www.vintagebass.com/thedudepit/showthread.php?t=28260
