  1. Apart from Chris Squire, who else can we plectra players look to for inspiration? Everyone listed in these interminable "Who's the best?" lists appears to play finger style.

these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head...

Roger Glover - Deep Purple, Rainbow
    John Wetton - King Crimson
    Doug Pinnick - King's X
    Ian Hill - Judas Priest
    Lemmy - Motorhead
Mike Gordon - Phish (especially recently)
Dave Schools - Widespread Panic (though he doesn't use pick all the time)
  4. Phil Lesh...end of story!
and glover and Gordon for added redundancy!

The guy from Tool. His pick playing kills me. Mark Hoppus. Say what you will about him, but he's a very good pick player.

Actually, it was more than occasionally for the Ox. He was almost exclusively pick-style for the late '60's. I think he could have played bass with a toothbrush and sound great!

My favorite picker is Justin Chancellor (tool).
  17. matt freeman from rancid got a good pick if you like punk
  18. Neil Korner had a better sound in Renaissance, and he played with his fingers...

    He's also our lead singer's dad... :D

    theater of pain
my three favorite rock bands from the 80s all featured bass players who used a pick,

    nikki sixx (motley crue)
    duff mckagen (guns n roses)
    rachel bolan (skid row)

none of them were particularly flashy, but they all kept the groove very well and laid down some awesome pockets. Nikki and Rachel also were both the primary lyrical and musical writers in their respective bands.
