If I had not gone through this rough patch, I probably would be posting pics of a cool bass I bought, no doubt. I am happy to be in a situation where I appreciate what I have. I just wish that appreciating what I have did not involve being broke.

I have spent more time talking about motorcycles in Off Topic than I have talked about basses. I think life has burned me out on bass GAS. There have simply been a bunch of things this summer that have sucked up money, so working towards any sort of boutique purchase has ground to a halt. The funny thing is that I could have my Carvin SB5000 or my Sire V7 and my Pedulla Pentabuzz and be happy just playing in the choir and home alone.

The funny thing is that I have some other things that I love to collect, and I have sort of burned out on that too (no specifics because of TB rules.) I think the idea of always wanting the new thing has just gotten old for me. I want to enjoy what I have, and not worry about what else I can buy. This may just be a phase, but playing music, instead of worrying about buying another bass is a nice change of pace for me.

Aside from the verboten topics which I also pursue, it's nice to have other hobbies.

I don't have a motorcycle, but I play with trucks and do off-road

Also building stuff is fun. I fix ruined instruments ( I'm 3 for 3!) and building a doll house for my girls

Mods did not appreciate me talking about my knife collection, specifically my switchblades. They are legal to own in my state, and carry depending on local law. I will say no more and post no pics.

Because of this post I now have GAS for a Sire, Carvin, and Pedulla.
GAS is definitely a side effect of this site, and the internet in general.
Generally speaking, the busier I am with making music, the less it effects me though.

Likewise the company I work for went into administration in May, so that was a wake up call for me for how quickly things can go wrong. Luckily we are about to be bought by a new group so hopefully the future looks good.

I'm less flexible than most in terms of ergonomics (preferring shorter scale length and narrower string spacing than that of most basses on the market) and already have several basses that are very similar in that respect. That really helps tamp down my gear lust.

In any event, good to hear that you're settled in on your gear and truly hopeful that things spiral upward. I honestly can't remember the last time I bought or acquired a bass. It was either my Fender AmDlx P5 which was just a stupid low price that I couldn't walk away from or the Hanewinckel I acquired in a trade for one of my Sabres. Guess I have retro-GAS. Not looking to buy anything, but can justify NOT selling every bass I have, regardless of how long it's been since I played it. Over the past 5 years I've spent more on PAs and electronic drum kits.

This is the thread as far as I am concerned. GAS gets old, even if you have plenty of money. Appreciating what you have is just better for a person psychologically.

I'm now in JaggerRichardsland where I've got pretty much all I've ever wanted and need to pare down to just what I need. Some partings are going to be harder than hard; but many will be easier, because I have learned that at seventy I am not the same bass player or person I was at 45 or at 30 or at fifteen. For many of my instruments it will be "been good to know ya," but it's time to move on.

Have to say I'm kind of feeling this too. Not so much that I'm forced to run only with what I have. It is more a matter of being intrigued by something different, buying it, running with it for a while, and going back to my favorite basses anyways. I have collected my favorite basses through this process of acquisition on impulse, but with a couple recent exceptions the process seems to have stalled with newly acquired instruments going unplayed or seldom played. I want to say I'm done but for the Alien Audio I'm admiring in the classifieds. That probably won't happen either. I think.... Unless the price is right... Sigh.....
