Hey folks, Been on a passive kick for a few years now and can't let go of the ghost of Warwick Streamer, love how it plays but find it too brittle in the highs with the stock pups and preamp (both active/gold MEC PJ setup, 2 band eq). I don't ever expect it to be as warm as my alder/rosewood basses (this LX-4 is ovankgol neck, wenge board and maple body), but I'm hoping switching it to fully passive with select pickups will pleasantly tame the highs and make the sound a slightly warmer affair. I'm pretty much set on an alnico split-coil and all but decided on the Fender PV63 as I believe it's sound profile will work well for what I'm looking for, but am still very uncertain on the jazz pup pairing (in the bridge). I want something warm and thick in the mids for a bridge pup, something that in theory would sound decent on it's own. My instinct is to stay within the Fender family and get a PV Fender '74 bridge, but I can't find a whole lot of samples and seems like I'd have to buy a pair unless I got lucky. I'll say that I like the sound of the SD Jb-2 as its warm and beefy in the mids, just not sure it will pair well with the PV63. Anyway, would love to hear some TBer input, especially those with experience with any of these scenarios (pickups, passifying a warwick, etc). Thanks in advance!
