How much of the tapered part should be sticking out past the saddle? As little as possible? I just installed a tapered low B and added a bunch of washers so the tapered portion won't stick out more than 2-3mm past the saddle. Any thoughts?
The less the better, except, i guess that a short amount is good as it provides a little length of tapered string to flex, improving flexibility. See http://www.rotosound.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/PSD_guide1.pdf they recommend 3mm-9mm and ideally 6mm, maybe for that reason.
I restrung and got about 7mm now but i don't really notice any difference in tone or feel compared to 2-3mm
