Tapered strings: How much should stick out?

How much of the tapered part should be sticking out past the saddle? As little as possible?
I just installed a tapered low B and added a bunch of washers so the tapered portion won't stick out more than 2-3mm past the saddle.

Any thoughts?

I restrung and got about 7mm now but i don't really notice any difference in tone or feel compared to 2-3mm
