Implemented TB Classifieds: For Sale: Pickups & Electronics

    I'm not sure why this does not exist. But I can't stand looking under "Accessories" for used pickups in the TB Classifieds. Pickups are not accessories. They are necessities, or else your bass doesn't make a sound. Please consider adding the category "Pickups & Electronics" to the Classified section. This category already exists in the General Discussion Forums.

    Accessories include all items that do not fall under the other forum categories including strings, necks, bodies, and other things that are clearly essential. The question is whether or not there are enough items to warrant having a specific sub-forum for pickups and electronics. There is always the issue with forums of having too many store sub-forums; simply put, the more sub-forums there are, the more tedious looking through the forums becomes. Barely used forums also look bad and leave the entire forum with whole sections of what are basically ghost town. This is especially bad for a classified section, as you want as many people to see your ad as possible (including those who weren't necessarily looking for that item to begin with), so overspecification of forums greatly reduces that.

    I'm not sure there are enough pickups and electronics with active ads to warrant their own forum. We could make one and I wouldn't have a problem adding it to my list of sub-forums to watch, but if it wasn't active enough it would be in the best interest of both the forum itself and all those listing those items for sale to shut it down.

    I see your point. Would you consider renaming the forum

    From:
    For Sale: Bass Guitar Strings and Accessories

    To:
    For Sale: Pickups, Strings, and Accessories

    I find myself having to go through a process of elimination to try and figure out what category Pickups are in. This may solve the problem with little effort.

    Would "Parts" instead of "Pickups" work for you? That would be inclusive of all the other items that are sold as or more frequently than pickups such as necks and bodies.

    It seems the Center for fretted instruments puts the sale of Pickups under "Fretted Instrument Accessories and Parts", so I believe your suggestion is a good one.

    If we're going for a single category:
    For Sale: Parts, Strings, & Accessories


    I personally would still like 2 categories:
    For Sale: Pickups & Electronics
    For Sale: Parts, Strings, & Accessories


    On the first 3 pages of the current Classifieds "For Sale: Bass Guitar String & Accessories", is see 50 active listings that would fall under the category of "For Sale: Pickups & Electronics". And 17 active listings that would fall under a separate category of "For Sale: Parts, Strings, & Accessories". I stopped after 3 pages. I'm sure there's more listings that fall under both categories.

    But I do understand to move those listings to a separate page may be too much to ask, in which case I think the updated name would suffice.

    Looking forward to watching this, as I too don't skate know where to look for "parts" such as necks, bodies, etc. Do bodies fall under "basses" or "accessories"?

    Thanks for getting this conversation started and for the respectful, grown-up discussion...

    Bodies fall under accessories. Only complete basses go in the Basses section, complete amps in the Amps section, etc.
