I just picked up a TC electronics vortex flanger and I can't seem to get the toneprint feature to work. I engage the pedal, turn my bass all the way up, position the switch to the toneprint postion and hold my phones speaker right into my pup on my bass while it beams what it beams into it. No flashing green light pursues, no difference in flanger, nothing. I've tried and repeated this process with the pedal engaged and not engaged. I've tried with the pedal in my effects and not in my effects chain with just my bass plugged into then to my amp. Ive held my phone close to the pup, further away from the pup, from different angles. What gives?? Anyone else have this problem? And I doing something wrong here? Help please.

It outright doesn't work with my 6 string, TC didn't have an answer.

I've found it helps a ton if you turn off all effects in front of your TC pedal - coloring the signal in any way makes it unreadable by the pedal.

Is your phone on silent? Can you hear it making the signal? It should be an audible signal. When I did the NAMM demo last year for their bass amps, I was pretty embarrassed when after many emails back and forth with their engineer, we realized my phone was on silent. Iphone at least won't produce the tone if that switch is flipped.

Yeah, my phone is making the fax type noise very audibly when I do it. That's covered.

Yeah, I just have a 4 strings squier P with active EMG's in it. I tried in my effects chain and all by itself. Neither worked.

Do you remove the pedal from the chain?

I tried it in my chain, and then out of my chain by itself. Both ways. And more than a few times each. Hey hose, have you performed a successful toneprint on your corona?

I have a TC Flashback and Corona, and the Toneprints work just fine through my Peavey (passive J-pups) and Schecter (active EMGs). My guitarist also uses a Flashback, but his wasn't downloading from either of our phones/guitars (tried all combinations). We solved the problem by plugging his pedal into the computer via USB and installing a firmware update, which can be found here. There are updates available for every Toneprint pedal.

Thank you very much, I'm sure this will solve the problem. I tried everything so many times I'm convinced that it needs an update.

Does anyone know where to go to update the firmware on these pedals?? Im trying to go to the TC support site and my mouse just thinks, nothing loads. Is there where I need to be? Its starting to get frustrating that they come up with such a great concept in a pedal but it seems like its such a hassle to update/work with. Anyone having troubles here too or have any success performing this task?

Ok, I go to this link, but, wow, there is a lot of different firmwares here. Which one do I get for the vortex?

  13. The Vortex software is near the bottom of the page.

  14. I'm not 100% sure, but I think you need to be on the toneprint setting when beaming otherwise it doesn't read the new preset in.

I just did the update on my pedals (Ditto, Flashback, Polytune) and that was a bit fiddly, especially the Polytune. Be sure to read all the update instructions and follow them to the tee. I don't think these updates have much to do with whether the Toneprint transfer works or not though.

My Flashback is a bit sensitive to where I hold the iPhone speaker, it needs to be right on top of the pickup and very close, and with full volume on the phone. The transfer fails now and then but as long as I position the phone right it works most of the time.

I have a polytune and a ditto as well. I just tried updating the vortex and tried the beam again to no avail. I'll have to sit down with it again after I have my patience back.

Got my Flashback yesterday (new) and tried the Toneprint app. It worked like a charm, tried out 5 or 6 different toneprints. Beamed it through my Squier CV Jazz, went without a hiccup every single time. I even tried it with both pups on and just a neck pup on. No problems what so ever. My amp was on, not sure if that matters?

Amp on or not shouldn't matter. I have a tuner last on my pedal board and mute before doing the Toneprint transfer, don't want to hear the digital noise amplified.

I don't know what the issue is. I went to the support website, thought I updated my firmware on the vortex and ditto just fine. Went to try and beam the vortex. Nothing. Again. When I update the pedal it seems fine except I don't know how long I need to let it sit with the green light on after its updated. I let it sit for about 15 to 20 sec and I plugged it and tried to beam. I'll try it again this morning and see what happens. I'm going to try and take my sweet time. I thought I was before but maybe I'm missing something here. Hopefully I'll report back with good news later today.
