Anyone played this cab? Looks like a powerful cab, 1200w. I was thinking of pairing it with a Mark Bass SD800.
I'm subscribed. I'm not sure this cab is even available in the US (it's not listed on Osiamo's website). My little S212 is killer, I would assume this would be KILLER! From what I hear with the S212, I'm not sure about the SD800 matchup... maybe a little too much 'wide low end and aggressive upper mids' meets 'wide low end and aggressive upper mids'... but just guessing. It might be perfect with the 410.
Matching is important..The SD800/104HF is a very good match, my other option is to get another 104HF off course. But I`m getting more lazy with age, would have been great to have one very powerful cab to haul around And with the eq on the SD800 and the tweeter-control on the L410, don`t you think I can tame a slight mismatch?
Probably so. I'll tell you what, the SD800 with the Berg AE410 is something to hear. Yes, you REALLY need to tame the upper mids, but that's no problem with the upper mid control of the SD800 set around 1K. But MAN, the deep wide powerful low end of the SD800, along with what I hear as a bit of a hole in the 'punchy' area of the upper bass and low mid just matches perfectly with the AE410, which is ALL about punchy hi bass/low mids, and IMO benefits from some 'widening' down low. If I would have needed the volume versus my F1, I would have kept the SD800 with that cab. Stunningly good to my ear if you like it uber clean and need a LOT of volume.
I have noticed that cab yes, but I`ll have to buy it from the US, and that will make it insanely expensive with the crazy tax-system here in Norway. TecAmp is very reasonable priced here, lower that MB in fact. And since I got a AC coming in a couple of months, I`m on a budget..
One of these days, I'll actually remember you are in Norway I tell you what, I'm so impressed with the TecAmp cabs, and I assume they won't be quite as pricey in your area. They are a bit much here ($1,200 for the s212). Not crazy expensive compared to other boutique brands, but at the high end of the price curve over here. I would think the L410 (40hm) would sound pretty beautiful with the SD800 and that tweeter system set on 'soft attack medium' so that the upper mids are not boosted.
KJung, is the overall quality of the TecAmp cabs as good as the AE/Epifani stuff? Or is it a step-down?
DEFINITELY on the same level or better IMO. The cabs have a bit of an old school look to them (tolex, the old style metal corners, and the strips on the side that unfortunately bring to mind the old Peavey cabs). However, they look great, are just stupid light, and the sound pressure level is just amazing. I've A/B'd my 90 pound, relatively large footprint (19 by 19) Aguilar DB112 stack with the s212, and the little 16 by 17 40 pound s212 MORE than kept up with the DB stack, and actually was louder (higher SPL) at the same volume setting of the amp. The TecAmp covers are ultra quality also... thick, very durable, and a unique zipper design that actually allows you to keep the cover on when performing if you so choose. GREAT stuff. OK, here's a bit of a shock maybe, but if someone walked in and said they would buy all my other cabs (I HATE selling/shipping gear), I would literally sell every cab I own and get a 'large and small' TecAmp cab to book end my s212 for different sized gigs, then buy a Puma1000 in addition to my 500, and I would be done. I like this stuff that much
+1... it works great. The three 'soft attack' settings mirror an Epifani type tweeter set at 8 o'clock, 10 o'clock and 1 o'clock (basically). It's a high crossover point like the Epi that just adds that nice touch of sheen to the sound. The 'hard attack' low setting just sounds like you turned up the volume a bit in the very upper range of the drivers... that kind of upper mid aggressive grind (it seems to lower the crossover point a LOT). The highest 'hard attack' level gives you that buzz-saw grind aggressive attack, almost bringing to mind a GK amp pushed (not my thing). It's a very clever circuit, combining tweeter volume and crossover frequency in the same control. It also has a true 'off' setting.
I'm purchasing a 410 in the near future. How does the TecAmp L410 compare to the Berg AE410 (sound & volume wise)? Both seem to be in the same category (tight & punchy). The L410 is about 300€ cheaper than the AE410 here in germany and a couple of pounds lighter. I'm playing a Markbass F1 & Alleva Copollo LM5 w/Rosewood board
