Anyone know anything about these amps? I bid on one.

This amp is from the predecessor company to TecAmp. For all intends and purposes, still the same company, same adress, same owner.
Interestingly, the tech soundsystems website is still online.

Shoot Thomas Eich a mail at [email protected] or [email protected] or call him - the contact numbers are on the website.

I own one. Good amp. What do you need to know?

    My questions are basic:
    General tone shaping capabilities
    Volume
    Is it user friendly
The Pepman head is mounted to a Tech systems 2-12/horn air head cabinet so essentially it is a combo amp.

It's got an 11 band parametric EQ.
    Gain, master volume
variable DI with pre/post EQ switch
    400 Watts at 4 ohms
    Effects loop with bypass switch
    EQ Bypass switch
    Headphone out

I would say it's user friendly (always bypassed the EQ, though).

Was using it with 2x12" Hughes and Kettner 8 ohm cab. In one of the bands (very hard hitting drummer and guitarist with 100 watt half stack) I am playing in, it was not loud enough. Could have used an additional cab, but went the fEARful direction. I was using it for about 10 years and never had a problem. Currently it's collecting dust, but I will keep it as a backup.

If I remember correctly Stuart Zender used to play one.

Edit: just noticed a mistake: it's a graphic eq

Interesting, seems to be a revised edition from the one I have. Mine doesn't have a fan.

The seller seems to not think that the amp (or cabinet; hard to tell which one he is referring to) has very good high end response or clarity. What do you think?

No complaints with the amp. All the high end that I ever needed. I always needed to roll back the highs on my Jazz Bass. For a while I used it with a fEarful 15/6 - very articulate and clear.

Edit: Don't forget that the equipment is more ten years old. Maybe there is something wrong with it. The controls age and collect dust - this can affect the response.

Thanks Tom. It certainly can be an age thing. My guess is that the cabinet has 2 12's and one faces sideways and that the cabinets design; while providing more volume and low end response may sacrifice high's to a degree. If I win the auction I will be able to post a follow up.

Got the amp and it is great; it is a fairly sophisticated piece of gear so it will take a bit of time to learn how to best use all of its features. So far I like the tone the best with the Graphic EQ bypassed. All in all I think I got a killer deal; the amp is in great shape and it would cost nearly 4x what I paid if I got it new. Now I need to figure out where to connect another speaker.

    Congrats and enjoy!

    Something like this:
    Cordial CFY 03 PGG

Just make sure it is safe to use with speakers - audio won't do. Or build yourself if you're handy with a soldering iron.
