I kinda want to get this to replace my bddi, I think it will be more flexible. Anybody have one? Any thoughts?
I've been looking at one for another distortion preamp. The mid control is much better to get you choice sound, rather then the mid being interactive with the bass and treble controls. That's pretty much the only feature that makes it different from the BDDI other then the fact that it's rack mountable and It has an effects loop. I've also been looking at the PSA-1; I tried one out and the controls on it really help you shape your sound. The drive control, controls the amout of distortion or overdrive but the other controls like crunch, buzz and punch can help shape your clean sound too. I was able to dial in a thick/punchy semi-overdriven tone from it... The only problem is it's $200 more then the RBI (in the U.S.).
I had the RBI for awhile, and I've had three Bass Driver DI's. I wanted to use the RBI as an overdrive preamp for my ABM900, but it didn't work that way; the distortion sound was way too different from the bypassed sound. I have the Fulltone BassDrive 2 that works much better to add a little dirt to the sound.
