IMG_4733.JPG IMG_4734.JPG IMG_4735.JPG I was in a local pawn shop the other day with no intention of buying a bass. Was there for other stuff... They usually have really cheap instruments/gear, but you know how it is - you have to take a look. Well... there was this stunningly beautiful 5-string bass priced an order of magnitude higher than anything else. I didn't recognize the brand (LeCompte) but it was clearly well made and, did I mention - beautiful?
I left it there and did some reading here and elsewhere online and decided that I wanted it. Went back last night, played it a bunch in the store, made an offer (accepted) and walked out with it. Soooooo.... how'd I do? And can y'all tell me anything about the preamp and the control functions? I'm hoping somebody will school me on it a bit. I already know how great it sounds and how INCREDIBLY versatile it is... see what you think. ;-)

Beautiful bass. LeCompte has been on my wishlist of custom builders for a long time, nice stuff, love some of his original body shapes too.

  6. Beautiful bass! Nordstrand big singles and in those positions should offer up a nice punch! How does it sound to you?

Big singles, you think? I wondered if they were splits, but there's no coil splitting switches. (IDK even know if that would be there or not). How does it sound??? Divine!!!! Thick, fat, punchy... or twist knobs and get lots of mids, highs and/or lows.... and anything in between. I can't believe the different sounds I can get out of it!

I did that after I saw it the first time in the shop. Found that they are held in VERY high regard!!! And then when it was in my hands again.... well... game over!! ☺️

Does Bud still post here? I loved his work and always wanted one of his basses. Great score!

  19. anybody know what kind of fretboard that is? It works so well with the walnut top, I'm going to add that to my mental list of options for an eventual "dream bass" build.
