I was going to make a fingerboard for later use, but I was worried about it sitting around without a finish. Should I be concerned? I plan on finishing it (eventually) with either true oil or danish oil. I could apply that now, but I wouldn't want to apply it to the side that will eventually be glued to the neck. It sounds strange to just put finish on all the other sides. How are pre-cut fingerboards protected?

My example is about a fingerboard, but it could be a neck, a body ... or anything that may sit around a ling time before being used. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
