Tenorizing my MIM Fender J

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by NewWaveBasser, Jun 2, 2004.

  1. I am considering changing the strings in my MIM to the 4 first of the six-string (ADGC?)... something I saw here... was called tenor bass or something...

Will the MIM neck be able to withstand the change in pressure?

Is it possible to change strings like this on a bass?

What should I keep in mind (gauge, type of string, possible adjustments...) as I make the decision?

The neck should be fine, you would have to adjust the truss rod though. (not sure if you'd tighten or loosen, i always mix it up).
  3. Cool, so I can then just take MIMmy to the music shop and the tech can install the strings and adjust the rod on one trip... good...

How 'bout gauge? And can strings (in this case 6-string bass) be bought individually?
