im somewhat new to bass, i have only been playing for about 7 months now. i had a few questions about termonology with guitars.

    1. What is 'action'?
    2. What are flatwound strings vs. other types of strings?
    3. What is MID?
    4. What does 'passive' and 'active' mean?

    thx :bassist:

action is the height of the strings off the neck.

strings are a combination of a core wire, and other wire wrapped around it. Roundwounds are a core wire wrapped with round wire. flats are round cores with flat tape-like wire wrapped around it.

MID? Dunno. If you are wondering what MIDI is, it's:

    Musical Instrument Digital Interface

Passive is a type of electronics in guitars and basses that has volume and tone. The volume control will only take away volume, I.E. it will not boost the signal. Active electronics require batteries. They allow you to add bass, mids, or treble, or take it away.
