Well, since yesterday I've been working on a little home stuido setup. It consists of a computer, with two awe64 soundcards and Cool Edit 2000. After a lot of tweaking I finally am able to get results I am happy with. I played both intstruments in the recording, granted I am not really a guitarist but I can pretend! The guitar is recorded direct in from the preamp. The bass is mic'd to the amp with a cheapo $15 mic.
