Just when I thought I was GAS free, I read this thread... So this past weekend I head over to the Carvin store to try an AC50... Didn't quite pull the trigger but now I'm GASing bad for a fretless semi-hollow. Tom Clement might be a possibility just as soon as I'm ready. Can't escape the GAS man... you just can't. Thanks TB. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=384066
Yes, the AC50F - I really liked it!!! Not a fretless guy so my skills aren't up to par on it just yet. I'm also not a fan of the Carvin amps... so barring those 2 things I still loved the bass. My vision for a bass like that is doing mutes to imitate an upright - just big, deep notes and it delivered! But surprisingly it gave me a nice solo sound as well and you can really hear the difference on where you pluck, from big notes to smooth melodic lines. I did feel that I had to ease up on the B string though, it wasn't quite as tight but it'll do what I need... I owned a Carvin before so I know it's great quality. On a cosmetic note, I really wish I could get the 5 with the "traditional/4-string" headstock - to give it a more acoustic look. Overall it's a winner for me... probably gonna look at a used.
