that cardboard sound

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by rexspangle, Jun 8, 2001.

  1. this may sound dumb, but does anyone know what i mean when an amp gets that cardboard sound? is it all in the EQ'ing? i
find i get it with different amps and basses, but not all the time.

sorry about being so vague, i dont' know how else to describe it. :)

I know exactly what you mean. I've had a Squire P-Bass Special and felt this way while practicing many times.

I've always found I get this sound while trying to boost my bass on the EQ on my amp a bit to much. I always fixed it with adjusting the tone control to a more treble-y level on the bass, which seemed to work fine, although it didn't get that really deep sound I like.

    Hope that helps.
