I kinda like the last one...
13 Best Effects Pedals for Bass Guitar - inSync
Well they at least got most of the Darkglass lineup in there! The Hoof is great too, but I don't understand why they didn't choose the JHS Muffuletta which is the best Muff that Sweetwater sells.
It actually is a pretty decent list. I did go with Civil War by Stomp Under Foot instead of the EQD Hoof and I am not sure I did the right thing. In fact, muff clones may just not be for me.
All of that DG stuff is top-notch, so is the Space (although for that dough why not H9?), but it is pricey. Good for the sales engineers!
You need to review the comps on the Zoom B3n! Get someone to lend one to you.
"three of our bass-playing Sales Engineers"
I still can't get past the term "Sales Engineer"
nice list, but it was compiled by 3 salespeople at SW that happen to play bass
OTOH, it's better than a list compiled by guitar players, LOL
I just wish it was more unbiased.
Bad list, IMO.
On a list of 13, two of the "best" bass effects are envelope filters? Don't stretch yourself too far, guys.
Also, not to base everything on the TalkBass world, but a number of those pedals I've never even seen discussed over here. Wouldn't a "best of" list include more pedals that are at least on people's boards, and that players are talking about? Or just what "Jeff from sales" likes to play when he moonlights under his moniker "The Jeffster" in his cover band "The Cherry Pop-Tarts" on Saturday nights?
As you can see, I don't have a strong opinion on this one.
“Bass effects pedals have played an important role on many of our favorite rock and metal cuts…”
Right, but not in any other musical genres. Sorry, Bootsy Baby.
It was tough to choose, but I culled this list of 13 from the pedals I own:
3Leaf Audio The Enabler
Arcane Analog NKT213 Buzzaround Tribute
Badger Effects Schism XV
Bearfoot FX Blueberry Bass Overdrive
Diamond Pedals Memory Lane
Empress Effects Compressor
FEA Labs DE-CL
Field Effects Small Hadron Collider
Fulltone Bass-Drive ver. 1 or 2
Fuzzrocious Broke Dick Peanut Gallery ver. 2
Menatone Kar Krash
Mu-Tron III (original)
Oh, but wait... 9 of those 13 are not in production, and a further one of them is available from the maker exclusively. Not of commercial interest to a retailer, then, so they can't be "the best". (I tried not to comment, but I couldn't.)
I worked for a company years ago that had a consultant group come in to recommend ways to improve the work environment and employee productivity. One of their suggestions was to give everyone important sounding job titles. My title changed from "Engineer" to "Manufacturing Engineer" and our technicians job titles went from "Technician" to "Technical Test Specialist". Not one of us got a raise tho.
You know what would have really improved the work environment? Taking that money they gave to the consulting group and given employee bonuses.
Currently got over 20 pedals. And owned close to twice as many more at one time or another.
Not one is on Sweetwater's list.
For some odd reason I feel kinda good about that.
I'm a bartender, sometimes I'll tell people I'm a Beverage Hospitality Advising Specialist
Interesting list. I've never even heard of some of those pedals, have never played with any of them, and for some probably never will ($300 for a compressor?).
Still, the DigiTech Luxe caught my eye, in part because it says it works particularly well on fretless. It sounds like its something like the TC Mimiq Doubler (except not in stereo). Has anyone here tried the Luxe?
Eh... no... I have only owned the EHX BMS and I sold it cuz I got the reworked deep impact and the octavius squeezer which both out that thing to shame. Plus the best envelope filter period is the subdecay dlx. You can't eff with that thing. And I own a ton of filters. I disagree with a lot of that list but none of them are garbage. They just aren't my favorites.
I have a mild interest in the Hoof and Alpha\Omega. I don't really like modulation pedals so most of these aren't that interesting to me.
I know where you can get an awesome compressor. See the man above.
I think you are thinking of bongomania, he is the TB compressor reviewer.
Oh, don't get me wrong--I'm aware that there are more expensive pedals, and I have no doubt they are phenomenal. They're just above what I can afford. I meant no disrespect to anyone, and I'm sorry if I came across that way.
Not falling for lame sales propaganda.
