I saw this guy with his bass tonight. It was so gaudy looking at first that I thought it was a Chinese copy. After I went to talk to the guy it turns out that he worked for Rickenbacker in the early 80s and this all red version was produced with a limit of 3 in 1985 only. Sale price for this in 1985 was 10K he said but that he paid the employee price of $2200.00. It did in fact seem a real Rick. The stained fretboard looked fantastic in person.
I believe they made 125 of these, some in 8 string. Also called the Redneck or Bloodstar. Similar in construction to the Tuxedo and Blackstar basses.
I see that trio of red/black/white show up only rarely in Ric conversations. Probably one of the most unique special runs in the company's history.
don't play Rics (I want to!) but damn that's badass! thx for the snaps, looks killer. matching bandana (either head or back pocket) should be standard issue though! sweet bass! edit: of --> or misspell
there are a few white ones currently available on reverb, ebay and/or craigslist. i forget where i saw them.
I love the redneck and its very funky siblings, bit I believe that the 4005/6 six-string bass is rarer.
That's crazy, never heard of those mentioned before. I dig that name though, bloodstar! May have been made next to mine!
I used to own one exactly like yours. Actually , I drilled the two bridge holes after the bridge lifted off.
