    Hi guys,

    I've just received this beauty:

This is a gorgeous Maple Burl "dyed through" top.

It's coming from Larry @ GalleryHardwoods
and it's is for him (and for me) kinda answer to buckeye burl popularity. In fact Maple Burl is usually much more consistent than busy buckeye and there is no need for any epoxy there. This top was Larry's first attempt and his quality has now raised up but...this one is already excellent!

The dye goes all through the thickess of the top and thus still be there after carving and sanding :D

Other colors are available of course...

What do you guys think of it??

    Peace, JP

Reminds me of that "peacock maple" Fodera that I've seen around here:

I think wood is beautiful the way it occurs in nature...not big on the staining thing at all, but I am curious how that will look when its finished. As it stands that is definitely busier than any buckeye top I've seen so I am not sure what you mean by it being an answer to that...

    Cool stuff! I like it.

Nice how the "dent" at the bottom of your bass design allows you to use that wood, even with the bark at the bottom.

Definitely want to see this one finished.

  17. Wow, that has great potential. I will like to see any other colours that Larry does as well, very interesting indeed.

It's an answer to the fact that buckeye burl is somewhat I would call "poor wood"...very low density! Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying your bass is crap for having a $500 optional top...uhh :D

Just saying that buckeye is something I would refuse to use though I sometimes like the looks of it.

    Peace, JP
